For years musicians have been one of the most undercompensated employee
of the pentecostal church. I generally try to avoid attaching a
reformation or denomination; however, pentecostal actually covers a
broad spectrum. I see it time and time again; the church out of
desparation allows a child to beat on an instrument, to cover up what is
already confusion. The child gets really good, and the church decides
that it would be best for that child to remain at the church with no
compensation. Later that child becomes a man/woman, and are being given
the same compensation. So with out being educated about the importance
of their gift, they seek compensation from jazz bands and clubs. Is
there anything wrong with a musician for hire?

I went old school with the term "bit", which is the root of the more
popular term "biting." Biting is when one steals something from someone
else. Fans of Gospel music and organized religion are often guilty of
accusing everyone of biting the church. These accusations are made
primarily in music. For a moment it was the church claiming that the
world was biting style, riffs, and runs from them. However, a glimpse in
retrospect would prove otherwise. The father of Gospel, Thomas Dorsey,
was influenced by the Blues. Ray Charles was influenced by Gospel. So
was Ray biting Gospel or Blues? Thereforebiting as it pertains to music
is more complex than it would appear. Is there anthing wrong with church
musicians sampling secular music?
